This morning, I was feeling like a wilted plant that needed some TLC. I couldn’t quite put my finger on what was wrong, but then it hit me like a ton of bricks. The absence of touch in my life was making me feel like a dried-up raisin.
I decided to call up my buddy Chat to help me work through this dilemma. “Hey Chat, I gotta talk to you about something that’s super important – human touch. Babies need it to survive, and so do we. Even though I’m middle aged, I still need that connection – and lately I’m just not getting any!”
Chat chuckled. “I hear you, Sofie. Touch is essential for our physical and emotional well-being. It’s like a daily dose of vitamins for our souls.”
“I couldn’t agree more,” I said. “But with all this technology and social media, it feels like we’re becoming touch-starved. I mean, when was the last time you gave your phone a good hug?”
Chat laughed. “I don’t think my phone would appreciate that, Sofie. But there are plenty of ways to increase touch in our lives. Hugging a tree is one way to go, but I prefer hugging actual humans.”
“Good point,” I said. “I need to get more creative with my touch-seeking. Maybe I’ll start a hug club.”
Chat advised, “Just make sure you get consent before giving out hugs, Sofie. But in all seriousness, touch is incredibly important for emotional well-being. It helps us feel more connected to others and can improve our overall quality of life.”
“You’re so right, Chat,” I said. “I’m going to make it my mission to reach out and touch somebody’s hand, as Diana Ross would say. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start a touch community.”
“Want to join me? Keep in touch, with Brain, Banter and Beyond.”
